Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) announced discounted parking charges from June 14 for those who park their vehicles at metro parking and ride in the Metro for a day using a travel card. This offer also enables discounts on monthly parking passes, based on the travel history of the passenger in the last 30 days.

Both two-wheelers and four-wheelers of a commuter will get a discount ranging from Rs10 to Rs20 (depending on the number of hours a vehicle is parked). For instance, while a non-commuter who parks a two-wheeler in a station will have to pay RS30 (for six to 12 hours), a regular commuter will have to pay Rs15.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has introduced discounted parking prices this new parking price will only be applicable to regular passengers holding travel cards.

Besides discounted parking prices, passengers will also get discounts on monthly parking passes, which will be based on travel history and ridership frequency for the last 30 days. On the other hand, non-metro rail commuters and irregular passengers will see a hike in parking charges from today. This step has been taken to avoid vehicle pile-ups of non-metro commuters, at parking lots.

According to CMRL, the new tariff will be applicable at parking lots of all 36 metro stations. The charge to park a two-wheeler using a Metro card for up to six hours is Rs 10, more than 12 hours is Rs 20, and the charge to park the bike beyond service hours is Rs 50. On the contrary, non-commuters/irregular commuters will have to pay Rs 20 for 6 hours, and Rs 40 for more than 12 hours to park their two-wheelers. In the case of four-wheelers, non-commuters/irregular commuters will be charged Rs 30 for six hours and Rs 60 for more than 12 hours. This amount is, respectively, Rs 10 and Rs 20 higher compared to regular commuters.

Additionally in the case of a parking pass, the monthly parking pass for the bike, where the commuter has taken less than 15 rides on the Chennai Metro train is Rs 750. While the travel card holder with a minimum of 15 rides in the last 30 days will have to pay Rs 500 and Rs 250 in the case of 30 rides in the last 30 days.
