The name Thirukoshtiyur is derived from the koshti ( meeting ) of Brahma, Shiva and other Devathas to devise a method to destroy Hiranyakashipu. There was a curse given to Hiranyakasipu by Kadamba Maharishi that he would be destroyed if he comes near the Maharishi’s Ashram.
திருப்பத்தூர் அருகே உள்ள திருக்கோஷ்டியூரில் சிவகங்கை சமஸ்தான தேவஸ்தானத்திற்குட்பட்ட பிரசித்தி பெற்ற சவுமிய நாராயண பெருமாள் கோவில் உள்ளது. இங்கு 8 உப கோபுரங்களுடனும், 3 தளங்களுடனும், அஷாடங்க திவ்ய விமானம் அமையப்பெற்ற இக்கோவில் தென் தமிழகத்தில் புகழ் பெற்ற கோவிலாக உள்ளது.
வருகிற 27-ந்தேதி திருக்கோஷ்டியூர் சவுமிய நாராயண பெருமாள் கோவில் கும்பாபிஷேக விழா நடக்கிறது. வரும் 25-ந் தேதி காலை நான்காம் கால யாகசால பூஜையும், மாலையில் ஐந்தாம் காலை யாகசாலை பூஜையும் நடக்கிறது. வரும் 26-ம் தேதி காலை 6-ம் கால யாகசாலை பூஜையும், மாலை 3 மணிக்கு 7-ம் கால யாகசாலை பூஜையும் நடக்கிறது. வரும் 27-ந்தேதி காலை 8-ம் கால யாகசாலை பூஜை நடக்கிறது.
காலை 9.38 மணி முதல் 10.32 மணிக்குள் கோவிலில் உள்ள சவுமிய நாராயண பெருமாள், திருமாமகள் தயார், ஆண்டாள் மற்றும் ராஜகோபுரம் உள்பட அனைத்து கோபுரங்களில் புனிதநீர் ஊற்றப்பட்டு கும்பாபிஷேகம் விழா நடக்கிறது. அதன் பின்னர் இரவு பெருமாள் தங்க கருட வாகனத்திலும், திருக்கோட்டியூர் நம்பிகள் மற்றும் எம்பெருமானார் தங்க பல்லக்கில் திருவீதி புறப்பாடு நிகழ்ச்சியும் நடக்கிறது.
